Akagera National Park
Rwanda's Only Big Five Savannah Reserve
Akagera National Park is Rwanda's only savannah park and one of the most diverse wildlife destinations in East Africa. Located in eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania, the park is home to the Big Five, scenic lakes, rolling savannah plains, and rich biodiversity. It offers unforgettable safari experiences including game drives, boat safaris, bird watching, and luxury lodge stays. Covering 1,122 km² of protected wilderness, Akagera represents one of Africa's greatest conservation success stories. After devastating losses during the 1990s, the park was transformed through a partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks. Lions were reintroduced in 2015 and rhinos in 2017, completing the Big Five and making Akagera the most accessible Big Five destination in East Africa.
